As the story is obviously portrayed, Love became Cloud's lover with the start of being his slave. His mother was sick and dying, and he needed the funds to save her life.
So Love did the right thing for his mother and earned the money, which was from sleeping with his teacher. He was forced to live with Cloud for about half a year. And throughout this all, he finally put his foot down and left Cloud.
About a year or so later, Love was kidnapped and taken back to Cloud. He fell in love with Cloud all over again and married him half a year later. 
Every so often, he gets depressed. He regrets this all, especially because it seems to him like Cloud doesn't need him anymore.
